“African music now has the potential for global dominance” – Cwesi Oteng

Award winning gospel artiste Cwesi Oteng who is known for his versatile and unique song writing prowess made an assertion that songs from Africa are being appreciated around the world as a definite sign that we must rise to the occassion.

Cwesi who was tasked to re-orient the perception of the African art at Inspire Conference organised by J-Force held at the Accra International Conference Centre, spoke extensively on the fact that Africa has the opportunity and the potential now to reach the world with our music.

The ‘God dey bless’ hit maker continued that Africans must change they perception and appreciation for the arts and African Musicians must begin to see the globe as their play ground not their home alone.

Africa must begin to see their artiste as national assets, brand ambassadors not a means to create traffic. African music is becoming a sought after around the globe now because of its uniqueness and now has the potential for global dominance.

According to Cwesi, Africa has a sound that has now become loved around the world and it is very necessary for musicians from Africa to connect with the global sound than to force their tradition on the world. Every continent has a tradition but we cannot reach out to the world until we tune into the global sound that is already working than a traditional interest of a few group of people.

It is good to add an element of your cultural tradition to your music to make it unique and blessed but to lock the message of Africa, which is hope and strength in tradition, limits the scope of our message. People do not have all the time to learn new cultures and traditions therefore our role is not to push our cultural traditions with our music or message but to push the message with the sound that can reach everyone.

Cwesi oteng recently released his new album ‘Anthems’ of which the gettleman of the land, H.E Nana Ado Danquah Akuffo-Ado had his share of the goodies and blessing from these songs. Read more and purchase ‘Anthems’ from HERE.
