South African Legendary gospel singer Lionel Peterson dies at age 74

Legendary South African gospel singer Lionel Peterson who is known for the popular song “Peace” passes on according to the family after a few years of battling with undisclosed health problem.

The news of his death occurred on Thursday, July 14th, 2022, and became visible all over social media with many different gospel stars and individuals pouring out their condolences to the family.

The song “Peace (Jehovah Knows)” was and still is a comforting song for many when faced with difficulties in life. Check out the song at the bottom of the article.

Reacting to the news, Legendary gospel singer, Ron Kenoly took to his Facebook page to pen a heartfelt message to the Lionel Peterson Family.

“Sing for joy oh Africa…” One of your favorite sons has graduated to eternal glory!” He wrote,

“Sadness seems to be an understatement when I think about the loss of my friend and brother in Christ Lionel Peterson. We first toured together in the mid-’90s too many cities in South Africa. From the success of his “Rejoice Africa” album, he traveled to countries in Africa and around the world.”

Ghanaian US-based gospel singer Sonnie Badu also shared condolence on Facebook recounting a beautiful union between the two when he came to minister in Ghana a decade ago; “I am glad I had the opportunity to honor you when I hosted you in GHANA. It was a record-breaking concert, where the Dome was packed to capacity and you gave me all the secret tools to success in ministry… I remember what you said to me. -“Sonnie, just as Peace blessed the world, may Baba do the same,” Then you smiled and said “All you need is one song” … Rest well Legend, Rest Well.”

The Kenneth Copeland Ministries also shared their condolences with the Peterson Family. “It is with heartfelt condolences that we mourn the passing of Pastor Lionel Petersen 13/8/47 to 14/7/22 who has gone home to be with the Lord. He ministered the Gospel to a global audience for most of his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Valarie Petersen and his family as they process his loss. May you find peace and comfort.
