Prominent Nigerian Pastor Taiwo Odukoya Dies at 62

Nigerians are mourning the loss of renowned Pentecostal pastor Taiwo Odukoya, who passed away this week at the age of 62. Odukoya was the senior pastor and founder of The Fountain of Life Church, one of Nigeria’s largest congregations.

According to a statement from the church, Odukoya died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday night. The cause of death has not been officially confirmed, but sources report he had recently been battling an undisclosed illness.

Odukoya established The Fountain of Life Church in 1992 and grew it from a small gathering in his living room to a sprawling congregation of over 8,000 members. He was known for his charismatic preaching, generosity, and work empowering youths.

Many prominent Nigerians have expressed their condolences, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who tweeted “Pastor Odukoya inspired many lives through his ministry. His death is a huge loss to the Christian community.”

Odukoya is survived by his wife and co-pastor Nomthi Odukoya, their children, and thousands of church members who will deeply miss his spiritual guidance. The Fountain of Life Church has announced a week-long memorial service to honor the life and legacy of their late, beloved founder.
