Nyamekye De Zionite Passes on to Glory
Late Nyamekye Gyamfi Attah-Kofi was a 25 year graduate of the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Ghana and his desire to let his parents be the first to witness his sterling grades, which opened the door to his dream as a young doctor, was crushed to death by a reckless driver.
Nyamekye was heading from Accra to Kumawu to present his grades to his parents when his vehicle collided with a speeding car at Akyem Sekyere in the Atiwa district of the Eastern region. Nyamekye in an unconscious state was rushed to the hospital and passed on hours later.
He was undertaking his national service at McCarthy Hills hospital in Accra when he met his untimely death. Speaking in an interview, a grief-stricken sister, Ellen Kwakye, could barely utter a word but tersely said “he told us he is now a doctor. He was coming to show us his grades. Now, what would become of the grades now that he is dead?” She appealed to the police to bring the defaulting driver that ended the life of his brother to book to serve as a deterrent to others.
“When would needless deaths be reduced on our roads? The country is losing graduates and my brother happens to be one. He was not able to contribute his quota to Ghana,” she lamented.
