Known for writing songs with deep words that require a second thought, Minister OJ who has been away from the gospel music scene for a while after his last “Tete Botan” single, has revealed that he only writes songs when he has a message from God to communicate and not just putting music out there.
The ‘Etesen’ hitmaker, speaking in an interview with Dr. Melody on Number One Fm last Sunday also noted that being relevant in the gospel music industry requires uniqueness, something that has worked for him all this while and a characteristics people expect from him regarding every single release.
According to Minister OJ, he uses the happenings around him, his personal experiences, the experiences of others, and the general issues of life to communicate a message of hope to people through his music in line with the Word of God.
The family man of a wife and two kids who are currently based in the UK was out of the scene as a result of COVID19 that prevented him from travelling back to Ghana from the UK since 2019. OJ revealed that the privacy of his family is one of his highest priorities and does not take it lightly, the reason no image of his children can be found on social media.
Minister OJ has been the one behind some inspirational gospel songs we have enjoyed in Ghana. Songs such as “Ete sen”, “Fa Mpaebo”, “Kosoa Na Kosa”, “Obi Nya W’aye”, “Adom Ne Odo”, “Onipa Hia Mmo” and many more are hit songs that carry a dept of thought.
In speaking about the secrete to his success in the music ministry so far, especially churning music with a deep lyric that is relatable with both Christian and non-Christians, Minister OJ revealed he went to God in prayer, asking God to reveal himself and him twenty-three (23) years ago.
“I went to God in prayer to reveal me to myself. For the journey to be smooth for anyone in life, there is the need to consult God and ask one of the most important questions; Who am I? What is my purpose? and what I am supposed to accomplish that will bring glory to your name? If you understand your purpose, your journey in life will be easy.”
Speaking about his purpose as far as music is concerned and the gift he has received from God, OJ noted that “God did not create me to become a footballer, If I had tried I would definitely use extra effort, but creativity and writing comes to me easily”
He stressed the importance of everyone seeking the face of God for a clear path to purpose noting that the moment your concentration goes on your strength, everything becomes easy.
