GRAMMY Award: Kirk Franklin, wins 20th GRAMMYs – Lecrae, and Tye Tribbett also winning Awards
The 66th Annual Grammy Awards proved a monumental and moving night for several of gospel music’s brightest stars. Legendary artist Kirk Franklin took home his 20th golden gramophone, winning Best Gospel Song/Performance for his spirit-lifting single “All Things.”
The uplifting anthem carries a powerful message of hope, with Franklin crediting God’s ability to achieve anything. In claiming his latest accolade, the icon continues cementing his peerless Grammy legacy.
Alongside Franklin, Christian hip-hop trailblazer Lecrae scored an auspicious double victory. His stimulating album “Church Clothes 4” earned Best Contemporary Christian Music Album, while its Kirk Franklin-assisted single “Power” brought Lecrae his first Grammy for Best CCM Song.
Dynamic live performer Tye Tribbett also joined the winners’ circle with a prize for Best Gospel Album. His latest live recording “All Things New” resonated soundly with voters through its stirring, soul-infused delivery of inventive new arrangements.
Rounding out the gospel awards, legendary quartet Blind Boys of Alabama earned Best Roots Gospel Album for their nostalgic offering “Echoes of the South” bridging the past and present of Southern gospel.
From icons to innovators, this year’s diverse Gospel and Christian nominees proved both the enduring impact of gospel music’s heritage and its continued progression. We look forward to even more inspiration in store from these spirit-filled artists.
