Gospel Explosion of KNUST to mark 50th Anniversary with an event dubbed ‘Explo Night of Joy’

Hurray, Gospel Explosion of IHCF is 50 years old. The “Adom bi wo Yesu mu”, “Ɔyɛ Ɔsabarima Aye Aye”, and “Agya Me Bo Mmrane” crooner celebrates this jubilee age in grand style on the KNUST campus. This is happening on the 12th of August 2022 at the KNUST Great Hall at 4 pm Sharp. This is the Alumni homecoming edition.

Gospel Explosion has been blessing lives on KNUST campus and various second-cycle institutions via its outreaches and campus evangelism. On 25th March 2022, Gospel Explosion launched the golden jubilee celebrations at the Republic Dining Hall, KNUST, on the theme “The Celebration Service: The Heart Of Gratitude”. This was attended by various generations of Gospel Explosion. The founding members also shared about their time during the early days of the group.

The 50th Anniversary celebration seeks to bring back all e-mates (Explo-mates) from all years and works of life under one roof. And to revamp the vision and mission of the group to take up the torch and press on.

Explo is an inter and non-denominational Evangelistic choir/music wing of the Inter-Halls Christian Fellowship, KNUST. It was formed under the name “The Thick Soundz” in 1972 with Six (6) Guitarists before it was later christened Gospel Explosion.

Since then, the group has released 5 albums and featured top gospel artistes like, Danny Nettey (late), Joe Mettle, KODA, Akesse, Edwin Dadson, Aida Graciella, Alexandrah, Francis Amo, Sammie Obeng-Poku, Calvis Hammond, Aaron Crentsil, Kweki Kumi Koomson, Theresa Pecku, Malike Nyamador, among others.

Some of its songs have become household songs, sung in many churches and even sung by many artists.

The vision of Gospel Explosion was to minister the Word of God through music to win souls for Christ and to bring hope, joy and life to people through music and also to train members to excel in the field of Gospel music and also to be of immense help to their local churches.

Explo has produced many music ministers and gifted musicians in Ghana, Ps Edwin Dadson (ICGC), Ps Akesse Brempong, Ps Jasher Taylor, Ps Joseph Gyebi, Patrick Masoperh, Ps Aida Graciella, Franklin Eleblu, Rev Theresa Laryea, Ps Sammie Obeng-Poku, Mimie Tenkorang, Nancy Oseiwaa Otchie, Yaw Adu-Ampomah, Johnny Haick, Ohnnel, Makafui Kwami (Sinach’s pianist), Henry Datsormor (Bethel Revival Choir MD), Affreh Jnr (Sonnie Badu, Ohemaa Mercy and Diana Hamilton’s bassist), Jesse K, Amponsah, Nsanku Pekay, Emmanuel Bludo, Gideon Osabutey, Barima Okyere, and the list goes on.

In 1980, Gospel Explosion introduced what is termed Campus Evangelism where they went from one hall to another singing and preaching the Word. Gospel Explosion is the music wing of the Inter-Hall Christian Fellowship, IHCF-KNUST, a member of the Ghana Fellowship of Evangelical Students-GHAFES.
