The Ghanaian gospel music community is mourning the loss of one of its iconic stars. Kofi Owusu Dua Anto, known professionally as KODA, passed away on Sunday, April 21st, 2024 at the age of 45. The sad news was confirmed by a family member, prompting an outpouring of condolences from fellow artists, bloggers, and respected figures on social media.
A multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer based in Takoradi, KODA left an indelible mark on contemporary Ghanaian gospel music. With uplifting hits like “Nsempii,” “Nkwa Abodoo,” “Yapai,” and “Adorso,” his soulful melodies and inspiring lyrics resonated deeply with audiences.
Celebrated as one of Ghana’s definitive gospel voices, KODA’s passion was sharing his faith through music. Beyond his own artistry, he helped shape the sound of many other acts, producing for the likes of Danny Nettey, Joe Beechem, Nii Okai, Halal Afrika, and Eugene Zuta among others.
Over his prolific career, KODA released 3 studio albums, 2 live albums, and 2 instrumental/jazz records, with his 6th vocal album “Keteke” being his latest offering. Classics such as “Nkwaa Abodo,” “Nsem Pii,” “Adooso” and “Hossana” cemented his status as one of Ghana’s most beloved gospel artists.
As the music world mourns KODA’s passing, his uplifting spirit and contributions to Ghana’s rich gospel heritage will never be forgotten.
