Christ Our Foundation
1 Corinthians 3:11
Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid: Jesus Christ.(MSG)
Many at times we feel compelled to do something great for people to applaud US, forgetting about the foundation on which we have been laid. We draw all the attention to ourselves. We like the very things we don’t know could destroy US. Many are building on their own foundation by their works. They have strayed from the one foundation which is Christ.
In our human nature, we are always gullible to forget many things in our Christian walk. But today’s devotional has one word for us, thus REMEMBER! There’s the danger of not remembering the painful death of Christ on the cross for US. Bible says in Psalms 11:3 ‘If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?’
We are group of people called to build on the foundation of Christ. We are not supposed to lay any other foundation apart from what Christ has already laid. Our only purpose is to pick the best materials for the building. 1 Corinthians 3:12 Take particular care in picking out your building materials. If you build with gold, it would stand the test of fire and time. But if you build with straw, it will be burnt when it passes through the fire. You are called to choose your own materials carefully.
What are this materials?
The materials he’s talking about has to do with your moral life. It’s heavenly character of God.
2 Peter 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge…;
For one to pass through the narrow gate or the fire successful, he or she is supposed to add to his Faith virtue and to virtue knowledge. To add virtue to your Faith means to add moral excellence to your Christian walk. It’s not just about being born again but living a godly life. Doing things that would not paralyze or render your Faith ineffective. This things are found in 2 Peter 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
The amazing part is that the things listed above it’s in your nature to do when you became born again. That’s the reason why he’s edging US to add to our faith. You can’t add to something if you don’t already have it. It suggests to US that we have it already. We don’t pray for it. We just do it.
Hallelujah!!
DON’T FORGET:
Christ is our foundation, we don’t have to lay any foundation again, but to built on what he has laid with quality materials that can stand the test of time. Endeavoring to increase in the measure of the godly character imparted into our spirit is all we need.
PRAYER
Father, I thank you for giving me the ability to build on your foundation. I choose to add to my faith virtue to virtue knowledge. I’m building on Christ’ foundation and on him alone. I thank you for giving me the best materials for my spiritual house. All shoddy goods and materials are off my way and I’m indeed a temple full of your presence.
Thank you for counting me among the best.
In Jesus name Amen
